    15M - 15T - UH-60 HELICOPTER REPAIRER

    Description

    Hundreds of Army missions depend on aircraft for transport, patrol and flight training. It's up to the members of the aircraft repair team to ensure that all Army aircraft remain safe and ready to fly. As an integral member of this team, the UH-60 Helicopter Repairer is primarily responsible for supervising and performing maintenance on UH-60 helicopters (also known as 'Black Hawk' helicopters).

    Here are some of the duties of a UH-60 Utility Helicopter Repairer may include:

    • Removing and installing aircraft subsystem assemblies such as engines, rotors, gearboxes, transmissions, mechanical flight controls and their components
    • Servicing and lubricating aircraft and subsystems
    • Preparing aircraft for inspections and maintenance checks
    • Performing scheduled inspections and assist in performing special inspections
    • Inspecting and repairing aircraft wings, fuselages and tail assemblies
    • Servicing and repairing aircraft landing gear
    • Repairing or replacing starters, lights, batteries, wiring and other electrical parts

    Training

    Job training for a UH-60 Helicopter Repairer consists of nine weeks of Basic Training, where you'll learn basic Soldiering skills, and 15 weeks of Advanced Individual Training, including inspection and repair of aircraft engines and equipment. Part of this time is spent in the classroom and part in the field.
    Some of the skills you will learn are:

    • Engine disassembly and repair
    • Repair of hydraulic, fuel and electrical systems
    • Repair of aluminum, steel and fiberglass airframes and coverings

    Helpful attributes include:

    • An interest in mathematics and shop mechanics
    • An interest in work involving aircraft

    • An ability to use hand and power tools

    Responsibilities

    Advanced level UH-60 Helicopter Repairers supervise and train other Soldiers. As an advanced level UH-60 Helicopter Repairer, you may also be involved in:

    The skills you learn as an UH-60 Utility Helicopter Repairer will help prepare you for a future with aircraft manufacturers, commercial airlines and government agencies as an airframe or power plant mechanic.
