What is a Warrant Officer?

Through progressive levels of expertise in assignments, training and education, the WO administers, manages, maintains, operates, and integrates Army systems and equipment across the full spectrum of Army operations of emerging technologies, dynamic teachers, and developers of specialized teams of soldiers. They support a wide range of Army missions throughout their career. Warrant officers in the Army are accessed with specific levels of technical ability. The refine their technical expertise and develop their leadership and management skills through tiered progressive assignments and education.”

How do I know if I would qualify to be a Warrant Officer?

 

Administrative Requirements - (A soldier must meet these seven Administrative Requirements before applying for the Warrant Officer Program)

    • US Citizenship (No Waivers)
    • General Technical (GT) score of 110 or higher (No Waivers)
    • High school graduate or have a GED (No Waivers)
    • Secret security clearance (Interim secret is acceptable to apply)
    • Pass the standard 3-event Army Physical Fitness Test (APFT) and meet height/weight standards
    • Pass the appointment physical for technicians or the Class 1 (warrant officer candidate) flight physical for Aviators
    • All Applicants must have 12 months remaining on their enlistment contract

    The District of Columbia Army National Guard offers over thirteen warrant officer opportunities such as: Rotorary and Fixed Wing Aviation, Information Systems and Networking, Human Resources, Property Accounting, Supply Systems and Food Service Technicians, Criminal Investigation Special Agent, Automotive Maintenance, and many more.

    If I meet all the requirements to become a warrant officer, what kind of training do I have to do?

    You must first successfully complete the Warrant Officer Candidate School (WOCS) at USAWOCC or a state regional training site. Graduation includes appointment to a warrant officer

    Then you must complete the Warrant Officer Basic Course (WOBC) at the Branch/MOS proponent school. WOBC provides technical certification in the new warrant officer’s primary specialty.
